St. Tammany

Genealogical Society

The St. Tammany Genealogical Society (STGS) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization founded in 1986. The Society encourages the study of genealogy by providing educational seminars, workshops and research assistance to members no matter where in the world their ancestors originated.

Won’t you join us in exploring the fun, fascinating, enlightening world of genealogy?

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING
Saturday morning programs feature excellent speakers on topics relevant to genealogy including:
*How to get started
*Effective research methods
*Where to find records – in person or online
*History
*Case Studies (See how others have done it!)
*How to write up your findings

RESEARCH ASSISTANCE

STGS offers an “Ask the Expert” program where participants are scheduled to meet with a “seasoned” expert. These sessions are set up to help you get started or to answer questions, find specific records, and maybe break through a problematic “brick wall.”

BUILDING COMMUNITY

STGS provides opportunities for socializing and sharing research with fellow members. The Society also works closely with the St. Tammany Parish Library in planning programs and maintaining the excellent genealogy collection located in the Covington Library Branch.
